展覽::衡陽路的老字號特展 / Old Trademarks on Hengyang Road

衡陽路與重慶南路的轉角,在一百年前,是一間叫做辻利茶舖的商號。彼時店內販售烏龍茶、紅茶、自製茗茶,品質精良,號稱『皇家指定,榮獲各博覽會、共進會金銀大賞』。店鋪外頭,則是有臺北銀座之美名、一流商店雲集的榮町街道。譬如臺灣第一家百貨公司『菊元』便選在衡陽博愛路口開業,它是七層樓高的建物,設有電梯,而被稱作『七重天』。

辻利茶舖店東是三好德三郎氏,他自一八九九年踏上基隆港以來,便開始在臺灣經商、長期從事烏龍茶的調查研究,對臺灣茶的發展極具貢獻。另外,他與官方往來也十分密切,經常在茶舖二樓接待室,與各界人士會面。三好曾擔任臺北府前街郵便局長、臺北州協議會會員等,有『民間總督』的封號,地位與影響力都不容小覷,最後在六十四歲時病逝臺灣。日本政府治理臺灣前後五十年,三好德三郎竟有四十年之久的人生時光在臺灣度過。

戰後,家人們返日。其子三好正雄在家鄉京都,重新開張祇園辻利茶舖。一九七0年,三好通弘從父親正雄的手中接掌祇園辻利的經營。二0一二年,他將祖父三好德三郎在臺經商手稿、照片、文件等珍貴資料,交付中央研究院臺灣史研究所數位典藏。年近八十歲的三好通弘,曾返臺灣尋訪辻利茶舖舊址,如今是販售咖啡的星巴克重慶門市。撫摸著老建築,閉上眼憶想當年榮町舊街廓,衡陽路的那些老字號,彷彿又一間間的被喚醒了。

One hundred years ago, Tsujiri Tea, a shop stood at the corner of Hengyang Road and Chongqing S. Rd.  The shop offered fine qualities of Oolong tea, black tea, and exclusive-made tea for its customers.  The shop was well known to its royal warrant of appointment due to all kinds of honor, including winning the golden as well as silver medals from the Taiwan Industrial Mutual-Progress Fair.

Tsujiri Tea Shop was located on the Sakaimachi Street where first class stores gathered, and was at that time considered as Taipei’s Ginza.  Kikumoto, for instance, the first department store in Taiwan, intentionally selected to start business at the intersection of Hengyang Road and Bo-ai Road.  Its nickname “Seventh Heaven” was learning by its seven-story building with elevator

The owner of Tsujiri Tea, Tokusaburo Miyoshi, landed in Taiwan in 1899 and started his business. His researches on Taiwan Oolong Tea were of profound contribution to the development of Taiwan’s tea industry.  In addition, he maintained close relation with the government officials by constantly setting up meetings with people concerned at the shop’s reception room at the second floor.  Miyoshi was once the director-general of Taipei Fuquin Street post office, and a member of Taihoku Prefecture Administration.  With his social status and acknowledged influence, he was referred to as the “civilian” Governor-general.  Miyoshi died of illness in Taiwan at the age of 64.

Taiwan was under Japanese rule for the length of 50 years where Miyoshi spent 40 years of his life. After war, his family returned to Japan. His son, Masao Miyoshi, reopened Gion Tsujiri at their hometown Kyoto. In 1970, Michihiro Miyoshi, son of Masao Miyoshi, took over the business of Gion Tsujiri.            


In 2012, Michihiro Miyoshi donates valuable historical materials regarding to his grandfather’s life in Taiwan. include business letters, photos, documents and so on, to the Archives of Institute of Taiwan History Academia Sinica.Nearly eighty-year-old Michihiro Miyoshi paid a visit to Taiwan and returned to the original location of Tsujiri Tea shop where a Starbucks Coffee now.  As he stroked at the old building, and recalled the very years of Sakaimachi Street with closed eyes, the old trademarks on Hengyang Road vivified, as if being awakened.   

This special exhibition was organized by the One Fine Day Studio.
